Written HSK Bands 1 to 9 across Hong Kong, on campus at any Hong Kong school, and in Traditional Chinese. Mobile speaking tests in six regions worldwide.
HSK Plus sits inside a family of Chinese proficiency tests. Which one fits depends on who is sitting it and why — here is the short version of each.
The international standard for Chinese as a second language. Nine bands running from your first characters to academic and professional fluency, recognised for university admission and employment worldwide. Under HSK 3.0, speaking is compulsory from Band 3.
The Youth Chinese Test, built for primary and secondary students learning Chinese as a second language. Four written levels and two speaking levels, pitched to build confidence early — YCT 2 to 4 map onto HSK 1 to 3.
Career Chinese Shuiping Kaoshi assesses the Mandarin people actually use at work. Two workplace tiers aligned to CEFR, delivered on computer and mobile, with results that do not wait on human marking.

HSK 3.0 is not a relabelling of the old test. The band structure, the speaking requirement and the vocabulary load have all moved.
The standard is now 三等九级 — Elementary (Bands 1–3), Intermediate (4–6) and Advanced (7–9). Bands 7 to 9 are assessed by one combined paper.
From Band 3 upward the speaking paper must be registered at the same time as the written paper. It is no longer an optional separate HSKK entry.
Entry-level load is lighter — HSK 1 is 300 words against 500 in the teaching standard — while the total across all nine bands stays near 11,000.
Cumulative vocabulary and characters you are expected to command at each band, taken from the HSK 3.0 test syllabus.
Figures from 《中文水平考试HSK考试大纲》, Center for Language Education and Cooperation, November 2025 (in effect July 2026). Words and characters shown cumulatively. Handwriting is first assessed in the Band 2 paper.
Mobile speaking sittings are listed in local time for the region you select. Registration closes ahead of each sitting.
The written HSK test is delivered in Hong Kong only. Hong Kong schools can have both written and speaking tests run on campus, scheduled around the school calendar — see For Schools.
Candidates sitting Bands 3 to 6 are reminded that the speaking paper is entered at the same time as the written paper.
The Center for Language Education and Cooperation syllabus took effect on 1 July. Our preparation materials have been updated to the new vocabulary lists.
